MEET KATE

Hiya everyone!  I'm Kate - one half of the duo that is BambinoAmore.

I’m pretty low-key. On most days you’ll find me in jeans, a tee (paired with a flannel if the AC is on blast and I can’t take it anymore), my trusty pair of chucks, hair up in a messy bun and my glasses on. That’s the most comfy uniform for my home-based sewing adventures.

Anyway, I like nerdy/geeky stuff (before it was trendy to be that way) such as; Dr. Who, Harry Potter, comic books, superheroes, Nintendo games, and books – yea, I said it – BOOKS! I like to read - real, actual books and even though I have a Kindle Fire, it’s not the same. I like the feel of a book in my hands and the physical act of turning the pages.

I take all of the photos for Bambino Amore and put together the social media, blog, and PDF patterns so I have become a bit nerdy about photography + digital/graphic design as well. Soaking up all of the tutorials I can find, constantly tweaking and altering everything from backdrops to lighting to photo editing, and reading tons of books, of course. The result has been pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.

Oh – and I design + sew aprons + make patterns as well! The funny thing is that when I started helping my mom sew for her Etsy shop, I really had no desire to sew. I get frustrated pretty easily and thank goodness my mom has the patience of a saint because she was somehow able to show me the tricks of the trade and I got better and better at it. One day, I decided to be daring and asked her if I could alter the look of her Jessie apron pattern. I wanted to create the sense of a costume in the kitchen. She said yes, of course and gave me a bit of advice – just remember your seam allowances (excellent advice for any pattern alteration or drafting, btw).

The result was the first Bambino Amore French Maid, the original Dorothy, and countless others. Then I tried my hand at mixing and matching the patterns that mom had already drafted and that was a lot of fun. I made apron tops and chef aprons and aprons with elastic tops – and thoroughly loved every moment of it. The design process is really where I flourished. That was nearly eight years ago now and a lot has changed. Some things will never change though. I will always offer our clients/readers the very best quality of everything I do – and I will never put my name of crappy stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a bit more!

P.S. If you'd like to contact me, send me out a message and I'll respond as soon as I can.
